Blogging, Other Math Blogs December 19th, 2006Several weeks ago I took some classes to the computer lab to comment on The Math Challenger blog. Today we are going to look at some other sites. You are to do the following tasks in the order I give them:
- Read my post on Fractions, Decimal, and Percents. Read the comments as well. They were left by students from Mr. Harbeck’s class in Canada.
- Mr. H’s classes have been blogging for a while. Look at their posts and leave a comment here telling me if you would like to be doing this in my class. You may also leave a positive comment for one of them.
- Mr. H. and I worked together on a wiki a few weeks ago about Effective Math Videos. Look at it to get an idea about what a wiki is. Most of the videos we used are blocked at school, but you can see how the wiki is laid out.
- Mr. H. and I are planning to have our students (that means you!) work together on a wiki in January or February. I have started a wiki for our class, and I would like for you to go “play” there a little bit now. Follow the instructions at the top of the page.
- Read the Bonus Points #1 post on The Math Challenger site and solve the puzzle. Leave your answer on their post as a comment.

I think it would be kind of fun to do something like this! However, I am very busy so I would not be able to participate much unless we did it at school. It would be like a homemade version of “Alabama Homework Help”. By the way, that is a very good website. They’ve helped me out of numerous situations.

Hola Mrs.Simpson! I looked at the blogs by the students from Mr.Harbeck’s class and I think that it would be a good idea for our class to try these. They actually do look like fun. I think that the scribe-for-the-day thing would also be a good idea, but I STRONGLY SUGGEST that being the scribe brings you extra credit. — Mary Beth
